Conference Venue

ICACS and SHIM 2024 will be held in the Auditorium of the Research School of Physics at the Australian National University. (Location: Building 160, 60 Mills Road, Acton, ACT Australia 2601).

The Venue is approximately 15 minutes by taxi from Canberra airport (fare is ~ AUD$30)

​

Walking and cycle paths provide good access to the city centre, Lake Burley Griffin, the Australian National Botanic Gardens and the National Museum of Australia, which are all within 2 kms of the venue.

Getting to Canberra

We're excited to host you in Australia's capital city. While Canberra doesn't have direct international flights, getting here is still convenient and might offer you a chance to see a bit more of Australia.

Arriving in Australia

Most international delegates will arrive at one of these major airports:

  • Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD)

  • Melbourne Tullamarine Airport (MEL)

  • Brisbane Airport (BNE)

Reaching Canberra

By Air

Numerous daily flights connect Canberra Airport (CBR) with Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. These domestic flights typically take between 1 to 2 hours.

By Bus (from Sydney)

If you're arriving in Sydney and prefer a ground journey:

  • Murrays Coaches and Greyhound Australia offer regular services from Sydney Airport to Canberra.

  • The journey takes approximately 3.5 hours.

  • Buses are equipped with Wi-Fi for your convenience.

Travel within Canberra

  • Transport Canberra provides cost-effective and easy transportation throughout the city.

  • Local bus services connect the region’s suburbs to local shops and the city.

  • Rapid bus services link town centres and other key destinations.

  • Light rail takes only 24 minutes to get from the city to Gungahlin, with stops in Dickson and Mitchell. It operates every 5 to 15 minutes.

  • If you are arriving into Canberra, you can catch the bus R3 from Canberra Airport and bus R2 from the Canberra Railway Station.

Fares for public transportation within Canberra

  • Cash fares are not accepted on Transport Canberra services. You must use a MyWay card or a pre-paid ticket.

  • All fares include a free 90-minute transfer period so you can connect with bus or light rail services.

  • Reduced or free fares are available for qualifying concession card holders and young children.​
